GoldenH's IRC Campaignthe log: game 213/05/2002 at 07:05[GoldenH] so you all on gryphon? good [Tabius] [ARGE, finally] [Vanal] alrighty, ladies and germs [GoldenH] indeeder [GoldenH] wb [Vanal] let's blow this popsicle stand [GoldenH] now, vote: Should I use Storyteller, or GoldenH? [Vanal] don't care [Cicada] Storyteller. [Maris] Storyteller I guess [Tabius] Well if anybody else is going to be reading this, ST would likely be a good idea. [GoldenH] allrighty then, ST it is [Storyteller] just this, I left it out of my email somehow [Storyteller] I'm not going to write out all of the attendants, because they number about 30,000. [Storyteller] However, as above, a few people of note that are not of the houses. [Storyteller] Prefect Hawashi, his wife, their children and their servants and guard [Storyteller] Various merchants who work this river and their crews [Storyteller] The Prefect's wife Allasyia and her companions, her family and their servants and guard. [Storyteller] and now.. if everyone is ready? [Tei] aye * Maris nods [Cicada] Yes. [Vanal] oui [Tala] Hai [Storyteller] The rainstorm passes, and sunlight streams down through the clouds. Puddles of rainwater litter the streets, but they will quickly dry under the summer heat. [Tabius] [hoowa] [Storyteller] Three hours have passed, and you've all done, whatever it is you have done. There is about two hours until night, and although the official celebration won't begin until tomorrow’s sunrise, there are likely to be a large number of private parties you are welcome to attend [Cicada] [to Tabius] My lord? [Storyteller] [and Malena is the ladies name, I’m sorry for my mistake] [Tabius] Ah, a good bath Sable. I feel much more myself now. *You can see that Tabius looks bronze, as is his custom*. [Storyteller] The heralds of the city announce with great commotion: * Maris sits on an upper porch of one of the Cynis houses smoking and watching the main drag. [Storyteller] "Lord Cathak Vanal, and the 10 Days Talon" * Vanal marches down the main drag, at the head of his troops, keeping in step, and sporadically shouting out marching orders" [Storyteller] the people cheer, and you carry on your way * Tabius eyes visibly narrow and a slight frown follows. [Cicada] [to Tabius] My lord, you know this man? * Vanal gives a sllight wave * Tabius without looking at Sable and in a rather low and intense voice, 'Yes. You could say I know him.' * Maris watches the parade and Vanal with a slight hint of envy in his eyes. He sits and smokes watching the Talon pass without shifting much. [Storyteller] the crowd parts in front of Vanal and his men, leaving the Prefect standing alone in front of the talon * Cicada takes a step backwards and bows in apology. * Tei has been practicing his kata in the manors courtyard, he seems to take no notice [Vanal] "COMPANDY...HALT !" [Vanal] [company] [Storyteller] "Welcome to my city, Lord Cathak Vanal" [Storyteller] your men stop, at attention * Vanal nods "It is a pleasure to be here, sir. " [Tabius] "We were '~friends' back in primary school." [Tala] *watches the parade pass by* [Storyteller] "If you and your men will follow me, I have had quarters for you and your troops prepared beforehand." [Cicada] [to Tabius] Forgive me for prying, my lord. [Vanal] "Thank you graciously sir. It's been a long march." [Storyteller] The prefect nods, and motions for you to follow him. The crowd parts in front of him, cheering as you make your way to a barracks [Vanal] "A-TEN-SHUN !" * Vanal leads the Talon behind the prefect [Storyteller] You find the barracks clean and neat, and your men start to settle in [Tabius] [To Cicada] You are my companion and part of Cathak, such is not prying. Especially should you need to hold me back, on occasion, from ripping his liver out. [Storyteller] [what is everyone else doing?] [Cicada] [to Tabius] Yes my lord, I understand. * Vanal gets his troops arranged...and makes a note to pay a visit to a ...familiar face as soon as he can * Tabius [would like to find a servant and order two new bathrobes. The old ones will not be handed out, no explanation given] * Tei moves his twin short swords in the complex patterns of the fire dragon style, taking no notice of those around him * Maris spots Tabius in the crowd and gets up and heads downstairs to catch up with him. One of his servants trailing behind him. * Cicada follows Tabius. [Tabius] !ex 11 [Storyteller] Tabius, 8, 8, 10, 1, 3, 8, 3, 6, 9, 4, 8, Successes : 7 [Storyteller] Tabius: You get your new bathrobes easily enough, brought to your door. [Storyteller] You will find them on your bed when you return [Tabius] [per + awareness to figure out that Maris is following and wants something] [Storyteller] [you easily see him through the crowd] * Tabius slows down and comes to a halt, then slowly turns around with a big smile. "Maris, good to see you so soon." * Cicada bows deeply, and stays down. [Storyteller] The crowd continues it's partying around you, now that the troops are gone [Maris] "As it is to see you. I was just wanting to know what you would be doing this night. Cynis Falen is hosting a party in her newly acquired house tonight and I'd be happy to see you there." [Tala] !ex 5 [Storyteller] bards play songs of the feats of the realm as you converse [Storyteller] Tala, 8, 5, 6, 5, 1, Successes : 1 * Tabius does not let his face betray the surprise of an invitation to a Cynis party, but says, "That would be delightful. Sable and myself would love to attend." * Cicada suppresses a shudder. * Maris nods, "I will be glad to see you there then. What do you think of the city so far though? It is a bit small for my taste. But some of it does remind me of home." * Tabius smiles again and points up to the gardens, "I am very impressed by the gardens on the roof. The city is well, a city and much crowded. But the atmosphere is a good one and very uplifting. As is your invitation, thank you. [Maris] !em 7 [Storyteller] Maris, 8, 5, 6, 7, 2, 2, 2, Successes : 2 [Maris] "How many of your house are here? I was surprised to see Cathak Vanal here." * Tala is still with the little girl, watching over her until her parents are found * Tala takes the little girl to visit her brother [Storyteller] The heralds standing throughout the city make another announcement: There will be a gladiatorial combat. Two bandits caught terrorizing a farmhouse will fight the Captain of the Guard tomorrow morning [Tabius] Vanal and his troops. Myself and my troops. Others here and there, enough to take up 3 of the local estate houses. [Storyteller] immediately after the opening of the celebration [Cicada] [Two bandits? That sounds familiar...] [Maris] "Your troops?" * Maris asked curiously [Vanal] "He leads a Scale." * Vanal comes up from behind Maris * Tabius smiles politely, "Yes." * Tabius bows slightly in acknowledgement to Vanal. * Tei takes note of the announcement, still moving purposefully through his exercises * Vanal smiles somewhat predatorily "hello, Tabius. I didn't expect to see you here." * Cicada buys a mug of steaming tea from a stall. * Maris turns and looks to Vanal and bows slightly to him. * Vanal returns the bows [Storyteller] Tala: you return to the manor and are quickly directed to her brothers room on the second floor. He is found laying on a bed, his wounds treated, and sleeping not unconscious. The windows have been covered with linen to keep the light and foul vapors out and herbs and incense in, but the fresh air flows freely into the room. [Tabius] Neither did I expect to see you, but a pleasure none the less. [Storyteller] the tea is good * Cicada does not drink it... [Vanal] "And whom are your companions ?" [Storyteller] Mary immediately goes to jump on her brother and wake him up [Maris] "I am Cynis Maris." [Tabius] This is Cynis Maris here. A fair hand with a blade I might add. [Maris] "I prefer the boxing ring but I was trained." [Tabius] Over there at the stall is Sable Cicada, my companion. * Maris says with a shrug [Vanal] "A pleasure, Maris. I recall your...extensions at the House of bells." * Vanal smiles at Cicada * Tala stays there for a while so the little girl can spend some time with her brother. * Maris smiles, "Merely something to take up my time while I studied there." [Maris] "Though I am glad to see another graduate of the House of Bells doing so well." [Storyteller] her brother groans as the girl jumps on him, and holds his side as he wakes up... quickly hiding it behind a happy face [Storyteller] "Hoya doin‘, squirt" he says, and tickles her. She laughs. [Tala] [forgot her name] [Maris] "We should find somewhere to sit down. It is too crowded out here for proper conversation." [Storyteller] [Mary] * Vanal nods "That sounds good." [Storyteller] The sun begins moving quicker and looms larger in the sky, and it shall be dark soon [Tabius] There is room by Cicada I believe. * Tei ends with a nasty double cut the slides effortlessly in to a parry slash combo. returns his blades to their sheathes and lets out a deep breath [Vanal] "So, how did you two end up with Tabius here ?" [Tala] [in the palace] Mary, be careful. Not too rough. He is still healing, *Tala says to her softly, smiling* [Storyteller] the crowd that has gathered [if you allowed them to] applauds [Storyteller] Mara says "oookay" [Vanal] [Mara ?...Luke's wife? *g*] [Maris] "I suppose that would do. I doubt the quality of tea is up to par though." [Storyteller] [Mary, sorry] [Storyteller] [I am king of typos] * Tei bows to the crowd [Vanal] "It's infinitely better than water and field rations, my Cynis friend." [Tabius] We could always make our way to one of the Cathak houses. They are fully stocked of some good wine. [Storyteller] the boy looks up, rubbing her head. "I'm sorry, I didn't see you there." he winces as Mary jumps off the bed. [Tala] [in the palace] "You parents are here with a friend. I wasn't able to find them but I was able to leave a message for them." [Maris] "Maybe. There's something to be said for bad tea though." * Tei moves off to find where his sister monk and the child are at * Maris says as he motions the silent slave that has been shadowing him to get the three of them some tea. [Storyteller] [in the palace] He nods thoughtfully. "I'm in the city then?" * Cicada presents the tea. [Storyteller] Tei: Investigation + Wits [Maris] "We traveled here together." [Tei] !ex 3 [Maris] "Just so happened we all decided to take the same road." [Storyteller] Tei, 7, 3, 5, Successes : 1 * Tabius looks to Cicada. [Storyteller] Tei: You know that they were seen going towards the center of the city, but that is all [Vanal] "The Dragons be praised for such luck, you can do no better for a traveling companion than a loyal son of House Cathak." [Tala] [in the palace] *nods* * Tabius smirks a bit then lets it broaden into a smile. [Storyteller] [in the palace] The boy tries to sit up, and fails * Maris takes one of the cups his slave brings and fills it with Cicada's tea and passes the first mug to Tabius. [Tabius] Vanal, I am sorry to say that you missed some action. The two bandits that fight tomorrow were captured by our party [Storyteller] [in the palace]"Who do I have to thank?" he asks with a smile * Maris then give one to Vanal and then pours one for himself. * Vanal scowls "Oh really ?" [Storyteller] the tea, as I said before, is very good * Vanal sips his tea and gives a slight 'thank-you' bow * Tei seems to be lost as he wanders past the db gathering [Tabius Vanal and co] [Tabius] Ey, after we killed 3 of their friends as we interrupted them sacking a farm. [Vanal] "Bah. Damn fools. Bandits should know their place." * Maris takes a sip and gives a surprised murmur of pleasure at the taste. * Tabius finally notices the tea, gives a very small nod to Maris and takes a few sips. * Cicada goes back to kneeling behind Tabius. * Tala my companions and I. We stopped the bandits from escaping and brought the two of you here. [Vanal] "well then, now that my men are here...your detachment won't be so pressed now, will it ?" [Maris] "Though I don't know why the damned captain of the guards is fighting them. Sounds like a poor excuse for a match." [Tala] [that was spoken, woops] * Tabius reaches behind him and motions Cicada to join him at the table...... [Vanal] "The captain must be a bored man...." [Tei] !ex 3 [Storyteller] Tei, 3, 5, 7, Successes : 1 * Cicada looks embarrassed, but moves up to sit at the table. [Tabius] Yes Vanal it is good to have some relief. That or the captain is making up for his lack of patrol planning. * Vanal takes a nice big gulp of the tea [Storyteller] [in the palace] The boy nods. "You have my gratitude then. And my parents as well, if you should find them" [Maris] "He must be. Probably annoyed we got there before his men. They're stretched way to thin protecting the farms. And the farmers decided to leave their kids at home." * Tei has made his way to the palace gates, and looks for a guard or some such to ask directions of [Vanal] "If the bandits were allowed to raid a farm, there WAS no patrol planning." [Vanal] "Wonderful farmers...typical of peasants..." * Tabius looks to Vanal, "My point exactly." * Maris nods in disgust * Vanal scowls "Leaving their own kin behind..." [Storyteller] [at the palace gates] One of the guards quickly recognizes the description you give him and gives directions to the boy's room * Cicada by looking down at the table Cicada hide the glare in her eyes. [Tabius] It was unfortunate that the boy was wounded, but the house was saved from being fired. [Vanal] "Who the hell is in charge of that chicken-shit outfit they call a guard, anyways ?" * Tei enters palace room quietly so as not to disturb the boy, if he’s sleeping [Maris] "I don't remember very well. Do you Tabius?" [Storyteller] it is now into the twilight hours of the day. Luna can be seen clearly in the north, although the afterglow from the sun still obscures the sun. [Tabius] Why the Captain of course, the one that will be fighting the two bandits in the Ring. * Tala turns to Tei as he enters. "Good day Brother." [Maris] "I don't recall his name" even [Vanal] "Of course it is the Captain, fool." [Storyteller] I mean, stars [Tabius] "It was Ramon I think, or something close. Didn't make enough of an impression to be remembered. [Storyteller] light is now given from lanterns that have been strung up around the city * Tei [at palace] "greetings sister. Tala, right?" * Tala nods * Tabius *Tabius seems to sit a bit straighter than before* [Maris] "You know what they should do though. They should find that stinking Iselsi Spy in the ring and have him fight ten or so guards. That would be entertainment. [Tala] [in the palace] *to the boy* This is Brother Tei [Vanal] "no, entertainment would be to feed him to some Fair Folk." [Maris] [[find the Spy and throw him in the ring even]] [Vanal] "Or let my men get a crack at him." * Vanal grins malevolently [Tei] [in palace] hello child, feeling better? [Storyteller] [in the palace] The boy waves weakly. "My thanks to you and your sister." * Vanal strokes his goatee [Tabius] Now you know that would be unfair Vanal, but it would be entertaining. * Maris laughs, "I'd rather the Iselsi fight the palace guards. You'd only need a couple legion men to beat an Iselsi into a bloody pulp. It wouldn't be sporting." [Vanal] "the most entertaining battles are most often *unfair ones" [Storyteller] [it's been a long day and you are all quite tired] * Vanal yawns [Tei] [in palace] "no thanks necessary, it was my duty" [Storyteller] [although some may disguise it better than others] [Vanal] [hey, I've been on the march all day, gimme a break, bub] [Storyteller] the afterglow finally sinks below the horizon, and the first star can be seen in the night sky [Tabius] Vanal, you are tired from your journey. Please let me escort you to the houses. * Vanal nods [Maris] "Well I think I'm going to get some sleep before the party starts tonight. I hope to see you at the party tonight. And you too Vanal if you can make it." [Tei] [in palace] to Tala: did you ever find his parents? [Vanal] "a good night's sleep in a real bed would be appreciated. And thank you for the offer, Maris, it sounds wonderful." [Storyteller] [in palace] The boy tries to sit up, but a cry from outside quickly stops him. A plump woman rushes in, and pushes him back down * Tabius 'thinks, dang it I tried, then says, "Good eve Cynis Maris." Then rises and looks to Vanal. [Storyteller] "Now don't be getting up, you'll break the stitches!" * Maris stands finishing off his tea in one gulp and nods to the two of them before heading off to his room at the Mansion. [Vanal] "Have a good evening, Maris." * Vanal gets up [Maris] "You as well Vanal [Storyteller] [remember, everyone except Vanal has a guest room in the Manor] * Maris says before going off [Tala] [in the Palace] No, but I was able to leave them a message * Tabius eyes glow almost read after Maris has left the vicinity. [Storyteller] [but you may stay where you wish] * Vanal smirks [Tabius] [read - red] [Cicada] [to Tabius] My lord. please calm down... [Vanal] "It's nice to see you too, Tab." [Storyteller] [in the palace] the boy allows himself to be set back down. The woman notices the two monks and curtsies. [Storyteller] [in the palace] "I am sorry, I did not see you there" [Tabius] Shall we go? * Vanal nods "after you, *old friend*." [Tei] [in palace] "good day madam." [Storyteller] [in palace] She curtsies again and quickly leaves the room [Tabius] "Why of course, ~old friend, this way. *Tabius heads off to the nearest manner house with an open bed. * Tala stands and bows * Vanal follows suit, trying to hide a wicked grin * Cicada escorts her lord. [Tala] "Quite all right." * Tabius there is an almost obvious spring in his step that was not there when Vanal was not here. [Storyteller] [Tabius: Going to one of the Cathak houses?] [Tala] [sorry, on the phone. Friend called just before we started :/ ] [Tabius] [Yes. :-] [Vanal] [*blink* ohhhkayy....the can-can started up RIGHT as Tab announced the spring in his step] [Tei] [in palace] "I should be resting before the ceremony. If, you don't need me here?" [Storyteller] [it's coo] [Storyteller] [I seem to be having major lag ;]] [Storyteller] [seem to be keeping up right now] [Vanal] "So, how've things been, buddy ?" [Tala] "It's all right [Tabius] "Excellent. Things are just fine. We might have an issue, but we have to wait till we get to the house to discuss it. * Vanal nods "Of course." [Tei] [in palace] "then, good night all" [Tala] "I have been forced to neglect my meditations some-what. I believe I will leave Mary with her brother for a while." * Tala looks at Mary and smiles [Tala] "You can tell him about all that you have seen here." * Tei moves off to find his room [Storyteller] Tei: Your room is easy to find, it is just down the hall. [Storyteller] Tala: your room is on the other side of the manor * Tabius after reaching the Cathak house where his troops are stationed he leads Vanal inside. * Tei [in room] looks at bed for a while before removing his armor and lying upon the floor, cradling his head on his arm * Vanal follows, keeping bolt straight and perfectly composed [Storyteller] The Cathak house is grand, clearly the citizen who lived here before was quite wealthy. tapestries are hung from the ceiling and a great number of valuable pottery can be found * Tabius to the first servant in the house that he sees, 'Go to the sweet and make sure that it is ready for Cathak Vanal. Report when it is ready.' * Vanal smiles and takes a seat in the nearest chair [Storyteller] The servant bows and quickly climbs the stairs, and down the central hallways [Maris] [[it's suite]] [Tabius] [types to fast sometimes and fingers go where they will * Tala leaves Mary with her bother and goes to find a quiet peaceful place, hopefully with fountains or other running water. Barring that, several pools * Tabius follows Vanals example and says, "How was the trip? * Cicada stands at attention by the door waiting on the two lords. [Vanal] "As per usual in the legions. Somewhat slow...and uneventful. No one is fool enough to tangle with a hundred and twenty heavily armed troops." [Storyteller] Tala: there are many such places immediately outside the manor, or you could try to go to the roof of the manor again] [Vanal] "and of course...their dragon-blooded leader." [Storyteller] The servant returns, quickly descending the stairs [Tabius] 'of course. To bad, was hoping that you too found some bandits to rips the heads off of. [Tala] [again? I went to the roof?] [Storyteller] [you can go to teh roof if you want, just choose] [Storyteller] [you can *try* again] [Vanal] "You know me. Ripping heads off is so...gauche. A handful of quick thrusts and parries and it's done...much more cleanly, too." [Storyteller] The servant speaks, hiding the fact that he is out of breath quite well. "Lord Vanal, your suite awaits you" * Maris sits and sleeps [Tala] [I pick one outside with a few fountains where it is quiet and no one is around] * Tabius sees the servant and smiles. * Vanal stands up * Tabius stands as well, 'Lets go see what we have in the manors for suites shall we?' [Vanal] "Thank you. If you'll excuse me, I will take my leave. See you later, Tab." [Vanal] [err..ignore that second half] * Tabius leads the way to keep Vanal comfortable. * Tala finds a place amidst the quietly gurgling fountains and sits down [Vanal] "This is a pleasant place...rather small, but then...anything is nice after the field." * Tabius enters the room and giving it a swift check goes around it to the windows and checks each for possible eavesdroppers. * Cicada stands by the door to the room listening for eavesdroppers. [Tabius] [laggerific] [Cicada] [this bodes well] [GoldenH] sorry everyone, i don't have a UPS, and we lost power * Tala closes her eyes and clears her thoughts, listening only to the soft sound of the bubbling fountains. [Tabius] [ouch?] [Storyteller] [indeedy] [Tabius] [need an update?] [Storyteller] [if you would be so kind?] [Tabius] [Maris is sleeping, Tab and Cic and Van have gone up to the suite and the first two are checking at the windows and such for spies and eavesdroppers. [Storyteller] *nod* [Storyteller] Where are you Tala? * Tabius once the sweep is complete, "Ah some privacy." * Tei is sleeping in room [Tabius] Anyways, I am sure that you noticed the Central Manor, yes? [Vanal] "How could I miss it ?" [Tala] [I pick one outside with a few fountains where it is quiet and no one is around] * Tala finds a place amidst the quietly gurgling fountains and sits down * Tala closes her eyes and clears her thoughts, listening only to the soft sound of the bubbling fountains. [Tabius] 'I would wager that you missed that it is a dysfunction Manse, [Storyteller] [okay] * Tabius walks around a bit. [Vanal] "I did fail to notice that." * Cicada is sitting by the door. [Tabius] "or that it is a functioning manse that is hiding the power so well that none have picked up on it. I can not determine which. [Tabius] I can tell that it does not feel like a demesne is here at all. [Tabius] This gives me pause for concern, of course. [Vanal] "I can imagine." [Vanal] "So in short...we've either got a manse that's screwed-up...or a stealth manse...." [Tabius] [int+lore] [Vanal] "Other than the whole Essence perspective...this is relevant...how ?" [Storyteller] The party at midnight goes well, and you all of course do what everyone does when invited to a Cynis party. And: Don't get any sleep at all. * Tabius will leave the house and head for the manor, "Sable please meet me outside the Cynis party. We have to make an appearance or appear rude. After a half hour or so please do as you like get some sleep, whatever. * Vanal emerges, bleary-eyed, but strangely neat and clean... [Storyteller] Unless you leave early, of course. In any case, you will find an invitation wherever you end up from the Prefect [Cicada] Yes my lord, I understand. [Storyteller] to meet him an hour after sunrise at his private booth in the gladiatorial arena * Tei will be up before dawn, meditating and whatnot * Vanal shrugs, adjusts his 'civilized clothing' and tromps off to the booth ? [Storyteller] Of course. * Cicada leaves the party early. Checks on the sleeping children. And then stand for a few minutes before to door to Tei's room, but finally decides not to knock. [Vanal] [am I doing a good job making my guy an unlikable arse ? *g*] * Tabius leaves the party a few hours before the games are to begin, gets a few hours of sleep and enjoys whatever breakfast is available gobbling down as much as he can and taking a snack with him. [Storyteller] The Prefect and betrothed announce the celebrations to begin as the first rays of sunlight can be seen. The crowd cheers, waking anyone who happens to not be quite awake yet, and then the crowd surges to the arena in order to get good seats * Cicada then gets up early in the morning, to prepare her lord's breakfast and whatever else he might need to recover from last night's debauchery. * Tei thanks the messenger, and begins the trek to the booth * Maris makes sure he watches the beginning ceremonies and heads to the private booth as well. And is standing behind Tabius' seat waiting on her lord. * Cicada tries at the same time not to look at Tei. [Storyteller] Once you have all arrived, the prefect stands, and walks towards a balcony at the very forefront of the pavilion. He raises his hands, and the crowed cheers [Storyteller] His voice is loud, and can be heard across the stadium as he speaks. [Tala] [old or new?] [Storyteller] [new] * Cicada studies the bride. [Storyteller] "A long and time honored tradition among our people is about to be witnessed by some of the greatest men and women of the realm!" he shouts "The tradition I speak of is well known among our people, but for those from other lands, I will take this moment to explain" * Vanal raises an eyebrow is detached interest [Storyteller] "Whenever somebody decides to take it upon themselves to pillage a home, the penalty is irrevocably death. However, even in death, there can be honor. And in this case, the honor is to die by the sword." [Storyteller] as he speaks, two huge grates at the opposite end of the arena open, and slowly, two men walk out, each carrying a sword and wearing a suit of chain armor [Storyteller] The crowd boos and leers at the two as they walk out [Vanal] "I don't suppose anyone wishes to make a small wager ?" [Storyteller] "These two men have committed such a crime, and their penalty is death [Storyteller] [hello] [Storyteller] "They have agreed, in this case, for death by the sword * Maris chuckles softly and says to Vanal quietly, "I've a fine bottle of V'neef wine that says they lose." [Storyteller] A third grate, this one cannot be seen from you, and you think it may be directly in front of you. Cheers come from the crowds, and if you have a good enough seat, you are able to see a man in shining armor and a long, brilliant shining sword [Vanal] "that's a given...but how long ?" [Storyteller] "I present to you, the Captain of the Guard, Illanador" [Storyteller] The crowd goes wild * Maris thinks for a moment, "I'd say 2 minutes at most." * Vanal looks at the captain [Tabius] "A minute for both, but I take no wager. * Tei has move up for a better view [Tala] "Betting on the lives of others?" Tala says disdainfully [Vanal] "He looks skilled...but I'd say...3 minutes." [Vanal] "In my profession, one must have a slightly cavalier attitude towards mortality, my dear immaculate." * Maris nods, "To the victor goes the spoils then.' He says with a smile. [Tabius] "They live not, for they are dead already for defying the natural order. [Tei] order can be restored, death is irrevocable [Storyteller] His westerner rises and comes to her soon to be husband, and taking a ribbon from her hair, drops it down from the balcony. [Vanal] "tell that to the men they've killed." [Tabius] In death they restore the order that has been unbalanced. *in a slightly louder voice* A good custom. [Storyteller] The Captain of the Guard catches it in midair, and ties it around sword * Tabius looks intently at the bride to be and her expressions. * Maris smiles at the quaintness of it all and makes sure to take a good measure of Lady Malena [Storyteller] She announces "Let it begin, and as all things, come to an end." Her face is unreadable, but her voice does not shake. [Tei] barbaric * Cicada looks away from Tei. [Vanal] "Life." [Tala] No, their death is simply death. [Tala] It rebalances nothing [Vanal] "the moment we are born, we begin to die. Some choose to speed the process trough their actions." [Tala] Nothing is gained by anyone [Vanal] "and no, *life* is barbaric" * Tabius wonders where these Immaculates went to school. [Tei] only if you make it so [Storyteller] The two bandits swallow, and advance upon the Captain, swords raised, and trembling [Tala] [eh....Immaculates are quite opposed to violence] [Tala] [especially w/o purpose] * Captain_of_the_Guard tosses the sword from hand to hand. "Well then you two, time to dance, no?" [Tei] [this "death in battle" is a sham to amuse bored people] [Storyteller] The crowd roars in approval, and the bandits attack. [Cicada] [whispering] Pay the piper, more like it... [Storyteller] [isn't it always] * Captain_of_the_Guard stands ready, giving the bandits an illusion of a chance. [Tabius] [refrains from continuing the almost to be argument above board]...... [Storyteller] The bandits strike at the Captain, their swords making neat arcs in the air, the quaver almost gone * Tabius nods his agreement of Cicada's statement. * Vanal watches in idle amusement [Storyteller] Storyteller, 9, 1, 10, 3, Successes : 2 [Storyteller] !em 4 [Storyteller] Storyteller, 8, 3, 2, 7, Successes : 2 [Storyteller] !em 4 [Vanal] "Watch him play with them first. As I said, 3 minutes." [Maris] "Even so he'll get bored and finish ‘em off in two." [Vanal] "Right. Just make sure the wine is the good stuff." [Tabius] 'or he will make a very good example of them and finish them off quickly. * Cicada pours Tabius wine or whatever he wishes to drink. It keeps her eyes off "the show" and disguise the shaking of her hands. * Captain_of_the_Guard delicately raises his blade, his foot kicking sand into the eyes of one bandit as the others sword slides down his like water down a mountain. * Vanal sips his grape juice some more * Tei watches in disgust, but says nothing [Storyteller] the bandits sword slides off of the captain's sword [Storyteller] it plunges into the ground, and the other bandit steps back, wiping the dust from his eyes [Vanal] "How long has it been ?" * Tala ignores the combat, sitting in the back where she doesn't see it well [Maris] "Haven't been paying attention. half a minute at most though since the fight commenced" [Vanal] "toy with them some more, Cap."? * Captain_of_the_Guard flicks his sword foreword, steel cutting through the air with the slightest of effort, striking for the bandit's filthy hands. [Storyteller] The bandits raise their swords in defense, but are not quick enough. A quick rap on one, and then on the other, and the bandit's swords are both laying in the dust as they cradle their arms and start running back [Captain_of_the_Guard] "Oh come on then. Give it a fighting chance!" [Tabius] "That’s for stealing. *said in an even voice* [Storyteller] The Bandits stop running, and give you a glowering look, just beyond the range of your sword [Storyteller] The crowd cheers [Vanal] "what if he doesn't kill them ?" * Captain_of_the_Guard lowers the blade and turns, bowing to the crowd. * Vanal smirks [Maris] "We'll share the bottle together. Maybe the priests will join us in celebration." * Vanal snickers [Storyteller] while the Captain's back is turned, the bandits leap upon him, attempting to drive him to the ground [Cicada] WATCH OUT!! [Vanal] "Oh, that's just low." [Cicada] Ups... [Maris] "They're bandits. What do you expect?" [Maris] "He really shouldn't have taken his eyes off of them [Tei] "that they see through this ploy" [Tabius] "Its part of the show I think. The Captain certainly isn't the captain for making mistakes. [Cicada] Oh... I see [Vanal] "even the best Soldiers get overconfident at times." * Tabius grinning from ear to ear, 'Why yes Vanal, they do, don't they." [Vanal] "Am I supposed to be amused ? " * Cicada suppresses a laugh. [Tei] I think that's the point of this whole sham * Captain_of_the_Guard takes the bandits with him, rolling and tossing them on their backs before standing, retrieving his sword. * Tabius golf claps. * Cicada goes back to serving wine. [Storyteller] The bandits fall to the ground, but just as quickly rise again, and grab their swords [Storyteller] They wave them threateningly and circle around the captain of the guard [Storyteller] the crowed cheers, digging it all [Vanal] "Well then, it looks like the rabble won't be defeated quite so easily after all." [Maris] "Well it's a minute now." [Tabius] "I am glad that I did not wager I see." [Maris] "He'd better deal with them soon." [Vanal] "Maris, I prefer the RY 735 Vintage." * Cicada looks around at the other people in the booth. * Vanal idly strokes his beard [Maris] "It's not over yet." [Storyteller] One of the bandits quickly strikes at the captain of the guard, whom is not fast enough to block it * Vanal raises an eyebrow [Storyteller] The sword cuts into the armor, and pulls away in an instant [Vanal] "I seems as though our dear Captain might have bitten off more than he can chew. [Tei] for once I agree with Maris, this isn’t over yet [Vanal] "Here is a strange thought...what if *they* win ?" * Captain_of_the_Guard takes the bandits with him, rolling and tossing them on their backs before standing, retrieving his sword. [Tabius] Two against 1 are odds enough to fight against, but he is well armored and the bandits not nearly as skilled. [Tala] "Yes, Lord Prefect, what if the do win?" [Storyteller] The lord prefect laughs [Storyteller] "The bandits never win" * Tabius a smile on his face and in a low voice, "They wont win." [Tei] "I bet they don't" [Tala] If the do.... [Vanal] "The Legions never lose, Prefect...but that didn't deter Lookshy any. what if they *do* win?" [Storyteller] The prefect merely raises an eyebrow, and looks at his father. * Tabius all but cringes at the mention of Lookshy. [Storyteller] The old prefect says "The bandits never win", and starts laughing [Tala] "So what you are saying is that you will execute them anyway?" [Vanal] "not very sporting, is that ?" [Storyteller] "No, no, that's not what I mean. [Storyteller] "You'll see: [Vanal] [uh-oh....spider-sense is tingling] [Tabius] [I feel a disturbance in the force] [Tala] [I've got a bad feeling about this] [Storyteller] Back on the field, the bandit whose took the blood of the Captain is faced with a furious counterattack. The Captain lunges back at the bandit, his sword flinging through his hand like a feather, and chops into the bandit's shoulder. [Storyteller] The bandit falls to the ground, bleeding. * Vanal applauds lightly [Maris] "Minute and a half" [Storyteller] The second bandit takes this chance to strike, and kicks the captain in the side, knocking him over the bandit who he just killed. * Maris watches the fight interested [Vanal] "One down." * Captain_of_the_Guard improvises, using the surprise of being on the ground to catch his opponent from beneath, a cascade of rising sword blows, some parried, some striking the bandito * Vanal winces * Tei loses interest and moves to stand by Tala [Vanal] "Even a bandit does not deserve to be hit *there*" [Tei] "Id say that's check and mate" [Tabius] "You have not seen the wounds the boy has endured. " * Maris chuckles, "And that's 2 minutes" * Vanal shakes his head [Storyteller] The bandit is seriously wounded, but not dead. Two of the strikes hit home, but are mostly reflected by the armor. The bandit, seriously bleeding, makes a last ditch attempt at defense, and the captain looses his sword, getting it stuck in the bandit he previously killed and having to roll away to block against the seriously-wounded bandit's attack [Vanal] "Yes, it was two minutes, wasn't it ?" * Vanal grins [Maris] "Damn" [Vanal] "and...he's not dead." [Vanal] "Remember Maris, 735." [Tabius] 'oh my, I guess the Captain will have to defeat him with his bare hands' *sarcasm* * Captain_of_the_Guard picks up the dispatched bandit's blade and flings it towards the staggering criminal. [Storyteller] The crowd boos at the evil bandits [Vanal] "Swords are *not* the thrown weapon of choice." [Maris] "Not really. But it does buy him time." [Storyteller] The blade flies true, and the bandit is too slow to move out of the way. It strikes the bandit in his chest, and clutching the wound, the bandit falls to the ground, driving the sword completely through his body [Tabius] 'No plan of battle ever survives in tact after meeting the enemy." [Vanal] "And...it's over." [Vanal] "time ?" [Maris] '2 and a half minutes. We got a tie." [Vanal] "..." [Storyteller] The people cheer [Vanal] "Call it even, then." * Vanal chuckles * Captain_of_the_Guard stands and sighs, retrieving his blade and bowing for the audience. [Maris] "Allrighty." [Storyteller] the captain of the guard is showered with flowers and angel food cakes * Maris wonders at the wasted food [Storyteller] The old prefect laughs [Storyteller] "The women. IF he eats it, he will be their husband for a year and a day." [Storyteller] the old prefect shakes his head [Maris] "Interesting custom." [Storyteller] "Only ever saw one who had the nerve to eat it" [Vanal] "That bad ?" [Storyteller] "No... they just tend to be married already" [Vanal] "ah" * Tabius chuckles a little bit. * Maris laughs [Vanal] "I doubt ari would appreciate me breaking off the engagement just because I was a little peckish" [Storyteller] The new prefect laughs, as does his wife [Storyteller] "No, breaking off engagements is not a tradition I carry out with" [Storyteller] They kiss, and the crowd cheers even harder * Cicada looks away. * Tabius keeps to himself that it sounds like summoning a demon into your service. [Tei] "is this publicity stunt over yet?" [Storyteller] The new prefect nods [Storyteller] There are now slaves cleaning the arena, and the people are filing out. The Captain of the Guard has mysteriously disappeared * Vanal nods [Maris] "So what's next on the agenda Prefect?" [Storyteller] The prefect notices the immaculate disgust, and manages to corner them on the way out [Storyteller] The prefect disappears while he isn't being talked too [Storyteller] The old prefect says "Oh, partying. I seriously doubt you'll be able to catch up with my son anytime before the wedding tomorrow." [Vanal] [anyways, I've got work at 8 tomorrow...I need some shut-eye, so I’m gonna jet early] [Storyteller] "He has a lot of stuff to prepare for, you know" [Storyteller] [l8r] [Maris] "Of course of course." [Vanal] [seeyas all...next week !] [Cicada] [see you] [Storyteller] The prefect says to the two Immaculates "A barbaric tradition?" * Tabius stays in the booth until the old Prefect is done with the Immaculates, so that he can talk to him briefly. [Tala] "I find unnecessary violence distasteful. I apologize for disrupting your enjoyment of the event." [Storyteller] The prefect shakes his head [Tei] "even if they had to be executed, Why draw it out like that?" [Storyteller] "Not at all. Although my understanding of the Immaculate texts is small at best, I have no intention of displeasing the Dragons" [Storyteller] "It is their choice, to either die with honor, or to be hanged. Most of them choose honor." [Storyteller] "The fight is not staged, mind you. The only advantage the Captain has is his sword, which is the badge of office, and his skill. Numbers are often not on his side." [Tala] "They could be offered a life of enslavement." [Storyteller] The Prefect shrugs and walks by [Cicada] [Thank the Dragons that Cicada did not hear of that "mercy" of slavery...] * Tabius jogs after the old Prefect. * Maris sits where he is drinking his wine and watching the crowds as he waits for them to get out * Cicada follows her lord. [Tabius] "Prefect, if I may have a moment of your time? [Tala] [perfectly acceptable by the immaculate order] [Cicada] [I see] [Tabius] [DOH!] [Cicada] [here we go again...] [Tabius] [I am amazed at what we have gotten done in 2 3/4ths hours. [Tabius] [Tries to think of a way to get the 4 non-IO's and the 2 IO' [Tabius] [to be a bit more compatible]? * Maris shrugs [Tei] [eh I think we've gotten along fairly well considering] [Cicada] [I suppose that will happen quite naturally once the "real action" starts... And there is one neutral present too, remember] [Tala] [*shrugs* We don't drink, we don't party, [Tabius] [*you party IO style, by doing Kata's and medication [Tei] [medication? wow we do party] [GoldenH] sorry again [Tabius] [*Cheers] [Tala] [actually, some monks do use drugs] [Storyteller] Allright, my sister is being a bitch, I’m going back in my room [Tabius] [spiritual enlightenment is the purpose of course] [Maris] [[how do you think they learn spirit walking? Hallucinogens are very helpful to the learning process]] [Tabius] [and I thought his sister was only a bitch around 11pm, its almost 12 there] [Tei] [apparently they stop at some point, It's against the dietary restrictions] [Cicada] [As far as i know there is now vows of chastity or "no parties".... At least not on the lower levels...] [Cicada] [Am I wrong?] [Maris] [[there are vows of chastity]] [Maris] [[it's just how willing they are to hold to those vows that's the trouble]] [Cicada] [I see] [Maris] [[Tabius was about to ask the Prefect a question]] [Storyteller] The old prefect? [Maris] [[yeah]] [Storyteller] The new prefect is now far away, with the two immaculates, debating religion [Storyteller] okay [Storyteller] The old prefect pulls out a pipe, and lights it [Tala] [thought you said he walked off?] [Storyteller] [he walked by, which was, of course, a typo] [Tabius] "I was wondering if it would be possible to give the new Prefect a personal gift before the wedding. It is rather unique. [Storyteller] [;]] [Storyteller] The old prefect pulls on his pipe and hmms * Maris finally gets up and heads out himself towards the Houses of Debauchery [Storyteller] "Well... The prefect has received quite a few gifts over the last few days..." [Tei] [which pref are tala and I speaking to?] [Storyteller] His eyes go hazy for a moment, then he responds [Storyteller] [The new prefect, the one who is to be confirmed, and wedded, in one day] [Tabius] "Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity since arriving. [Storyteller] [The old prefect, is his father] [Storyteller] [his father, whose name is Tammanah [Storyteller] [The new prefect had just commented that he did not see how slavery was a punishment, before I was rudely disconnected] [Tala] [didn't see it] [Tei] [nor I] [Storyteller] [musta been after I was disc'd then. consider it said] [Storyteller] [arena] Tammanah says "Well, if you would leave it with me, or any of the servants in the Manor, I'm sure he would be most grateful for your gift.: [Storyteller] [IO] The prefect shrugs. "I don't really see how slavery is a fitting punishment. I have many slaves, and they are treated well. A bandit does not deserve a such good life. [Tabius] "The problem is, I will have to show him and his betrothed how it works. This must be done personally or they might never learn how to do it properly. [Tabius] [arena] [Tala] [IO] "Not all treat their servants well." [Storyteller] [arena]"Hmmm.. well that could be arranged, I am sure." The old mans eyes become sharper. "I'm certain that you will meet the prefect in person again." [Tala] [IO] "I have seen that life as the property of another is a fickle and uncertain one sometimes." [Tabius] [Arena] Of course your lordship, at the very least tomorrow at the wedding. *smiles sincerely* [Storyteller] [IO] "But is not a heroic death better than an ignoble life? Even if I were to instate such an option, to be sold into slavery, I could not live with myself to know that they have been sent of to meet some horrible fate with the fae. And I do not think they would rather be sent their either." [Storyteller] [arena] The old prefect bows. "Now, is there anything else I can help you with, my fine young lord? Although I am quite old" and to this, his mustache puckers, "I still have a few duties to attend to before my son takes over." [Tabius] "Thank you for your time, it is appreciated." [Storyteller] [arena] Tammanah bows again, and disappears into the crowds [Tei] [IO] "The bandits made their choice already. They should be executed simply, it is you’re duty to carry out justice not provide them a way out." [Tala] [IO] "I do not see such a death as heroic. A stay of execution is still an execution, merely for public amusement." [Tei] [IO] "Precisly." [Tala] [IO] "Given a chance to live they have a chance to change, to reform, and repent." [Storyteller] [IO] The prefect looks troubled, but continues listening. * Tala shrugs [Storyteller] [garden] As Maris extracts himself from the crowds, he finds himself walking along the exact same path the old prefect is taking [Storyteller] [garden] The old prefect puffs on his pipe. "Turning in so soon? I would not have thought you the type for that" [Maris] "Oh no. I was just curious about the garden on top of the Palace. Thought'd I see it in the morning light." [Tabius] [Arena] 'Is there anything that you would like to do today Sable? [Tala] [IO] "Simply a different view, Lord Prefect." [Storyteller] [garden] well then my fine young sir, you are in luck, because I am heading there right now" [Tei] [IO] "sir I see you take no pleasure in this, I believe we should speak further after your wedding. Worry not you're willingness to listen does you much credit." [Storyteller] [IO] The prefect nods. "Thank you," he smiles, although it is a rueful one. "I hope to see you both again" [Storyteller] And with that, he is lost in the crowds [Cicada] [Arena] I would like to check on the children again, my lord, if you would allow... [Tabius] [arena] I think that I would as well. *smiles knowingly and heads and that direction* * Tala goes to see if there has been any response to the message she left for the children's parents [Maris] [garden] "Wonderful. I would much like to hear about them from one who knows their history [Maris] !ex 3 [Storyteller] Maris, 6, 9, 1, Successes : 1 [Storyteller] [garden] The old prefect laughs. "Many do. And that story, like many others, is long and interesting" [Tei] can we continue from this point next week, I really must be going [Storyteller] well, okay [Storyteller] if anyone else wants to stop? [Tabius] [not really, but if needs be I am amiable] [Cicada] [I could keep going for another hour or so..] [Tala] [I'm fine] [Storyteller] Well I don't have to stop completely.. but nothing really significant will happen [Storyteller] since we are missing two players then [Tabius] [ponders significant] [Cicada] [problem is I wouldn't mind "running into" Tei] [Storyteller] In any case, you may continue your meditations? * Storyteller ponders [Tei] [hmm, I could stick around for that, if you give me a moment first [Storyteller] nah, I'm not going to NPC something like that [Maris] [[Well I can keep gaming. But I need to do some stuff before I get to bed anyway.]] [Storyteller] Well, it would be convenient for me, because I now have to type up the old prefects long winded story about the garden ;] [Tabius] 3 hours is a good thing I think...... we only got 3.5 last time :-] [Storyteller] yea [Maris] [[alright. I think I'll take off then.]] [Storyteller] allright, nice playing with you [Storyteller] 5 XP for you all [Cicada] Ok. [Thanos] I am more than happy to stick around and bullshit about insignificant things. [Tei] k see y'all next week [Storyteller] if you want to hang around you may [Storyteller] l8r |
