A long, unforgiven, winding path works it's way up the sheer cliffs to the city [21:52] * Tabius follows Tala's lead. [21:53] "Don't you monks ever make it EASY to get to a monastery ?" [21:55] * Tala trudges up the path [21:56] "If it were easy to get there, more people would visit." It's one way... you wonder what happens when someone tries to go down when someone else is trying to go up... [22:01] * Tala continues up the path quietly [22:02] Everyone is tired by the time they've reached the city.. the monks here do not eat much, but there is a spring coming out of the side of the mountain... one of many miracles performed by the ancient monk Thrice-Lobed Shower who calls this place his home. As such, everyone here is thin, skinny, and very devout - only monks enlightened enough to eat the sparse meals make this place their [22:02] home, besides the occasional student or other person who bring their own foods with them [22:03] * Vanal brought his own, thank Mela [22:03] * Tabius can come and go as he pleases with food and drink as needed. [22:05] One young woman, sister to the infamous Peleps Dened, is only so pleased to find Tala's mentor for you while you sit on the ground, or stand, for there are no chairs in this place. [22:07] * Tala walks around, studying the place. [22:07] Life here is slow and quiet, and cold, despite the lack of howling winds and icy clouds common on most other mountains. [22:09] "This place is rather....devout." [22:09] "It is a place of peaceful study and devotion." [22:12] * Vanal nods [22:12] It takes a few minutes, but eventually Thrice-Lobed Shower is found and approaches the three of you. He is an ancient man, and his skin has long ago turned nearly black with the years of essence.. and yet, he does not seem to be much older than any of you, and his movements are flowing and silent, and yet adapting; even were he to step on a loose stone, it would be as if it was never there. [22:14] * Vanal arches an eyebrow and watches intently [22:14] He inclines his head, very slightly to Tala. [22:15] * Tabius gives a short bow in respect for the man. [22:37] The ancient immaculate stands still until you are ready to go; saying so or no, perhaps by the way you hold yourselves, he turns and leads on through the wide streets of the monestary. Here and there, monks are meditating in the street, while others practice their skills on the rooftops, honing their eyes as well as their bodies. [22:38] * Tabius follows in step with Vanal. [22:39] * Tala silently follows her master [22:39] * Vanal observes the martial artists with a critical eye...very impressed [22:44] You go by an ampitheatre.. simple seats have been carved out of the stone, like a massive, semicircular stairway, all leading down to a central dias where sermons could easily be given far below. It is empty, now, and he leads you along the ridge until you come to a simple stone ledge overhanging the farmland miles below. At the edge of the ledge, with his back to the massive drop, he sits [22:44] down crosslegged, and gestures for you to do the same. [22:44] * Tabius after having been around Tei and Tala, not much concerning martial arts impresses Tabius. [22:45] * Tabius does the same. [22:45] * Tala sits down across from him [22:46] Two younger monks, obviously new here, steady feet bring a pot of hot water, simple earthenware cups, and dried leaves. They kneel down on either side of the ledge as they place the items on the ground before their master, and silently rise, retreating from the edge, as it is obvious that they are uncomfortable here [22:49] Silently Thrice-Lobed Showers takes the leaves in his hand and crushes them, dropping a equal portion of dust into each of the cups that are filled with hot water [22:49] Then he takes his own tea and sips it, closing his eyes to meditate upon the almost nonexistant taste [22:50] * Tabius follows suit, and enjoys the feeling of warmth that flows from the water on this cold day. [22:51] * Tala takes a sip of the tea and then sets down the cup lightly [22:51] * Tala relates the tale of her travels since her journey to Malkor's Guard over a year ago [22:53] * *Showers* 's tea smokes less and less as he listens to the tale, almost never drinking it, though when he does you find yourself wondering if your memory is playing tricks on you or not. [22:56] <*Showers*> "Are you ready to continue down your path, Tala?" [22:57] * Tala nods [22:58] * *Showers* nods and slowly finishes the rest of his tea through multiple sips [22:59] <*Showers*> "You have studied the teachings of the Water Dragon?" [22:59] * Tala nods [22:59] * Tala tells Showers of her encounter with the Dragon. [23:01] <*Showers*> listens to the whole thing, you think he is actually paying exceptionally close attention to some parts, but it is always impossible tot ell with him. "You must be ready for the trials you will face, if you are not ready now." [23:03] * Tala nods [23:03] * Tala relates her advancement along the path of the Water dragon, and how she has added steps to the path [23:05] <*Showers*> "You have mastered the style? Then you must show me, so that I may judge how far you have truly advanced." [23:10] "I am ready." [23:13] * *Showers* nods and walks forwards again, letting Tala lead the way to the summit. When you arrive, you see a variety of unhewn rocks with a nearly vertical slant.. the ages have worn many of them smooth from use, despite the fact that there is nothing to celebrate this mode of ascent, and the many marks score the side give away the fact that more than one aspirant was uncertain enough to [23:13] * *use* their charms to ensure their success. [23:14] a mile above, you can see the peak of the mountain.... it is uncertain how you will go that far. [23:16] "you have GOT to be kidding me." [23:16] <*Showers*> "Try not to deface the monument... there is only One Tower, and it must last until the Dragons rise." [23:17] He smiles at Vanal, and starts his ascent. [23:18] "So Van, the old fashioned way or do we take a lift?" [23:22] "A life sounds good." [23:22] *lift [23:23] "I'm no mountaineer." [23:23] "Would it be permissible to reach the top through magic Master?" [23:24] The wily old man has no problem leaping from stone to stone, and he is already a few yards above you when he looks down.
